Fixing No Signal when connecting your DisplayPort in 5 min

By March 8, 2023June 27th, 2023No Comments

I was handed a workstation where the screen didn’t turn on any more. The workstation was equipped with a Nvidia Quadro GPU that only has Display Ports. So first I tried the most obvious things, like upgrading the Nvidia drivers, removing the drivers completely and installed an older version. But still the monitors didn’t turn on, so I took another model Nvidia GPU that I had laying around that had a DVI port and DisplayPort.

The monitor connected to the DVI port worked immediately, but the DisplayPort stayed black. Switching the cables learned that there is something wrong on the Display Port side. So I changed the cables, but that didn’t help either. I even factory reset both monitors without any luck. As a last resort, I unplugged the power cable and let it out for a couple of minutes. This way the capacitors can fully discharge. After I plugged it back in the monitor turned on.

Solution to fix you DisplayPort

So to wrap it up, if you DisplayPort won’t function and you are sure that monitor is fine (tested a DVI or VGA cable), then just simply unplug the power cable from your monitor (turning it off and on won’t work) and leave it unplugged for a couple of minutes. This will allow the capacitors to discharge and fix the problem.

Also, make sure you have good quality cables. I have seen many times before that cheap cables can cause black screens or monitor fall out. Good affordable cable brands are Cable Matters and for example Rankie
